Biography

Anie was Born in Taiwan, lived in East Timor and the Dominican Republic, currently lives and works in Sydney. Trained at the College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales, Anie was awarded the Australian Postgraduate Award Scholarship, and completed her MFA in 2007.

Anie's practice focuses mainly on drawing, collage and painting. In recent years, she has incorporated elements of installation into the reading of her work. This was instigated with a strong interest in incorporating placements and negative space into the work as a whole. In visual terms, spatial, shape, border and surface are the main constituents in the making of the images. Working with her interest in the body and its sensory processes to make sense of our experiences, these constituents provide the metaphorical reading and cultural subtexts of displacements, placements, replacements of a female body and the emotional affects sourced from continual flux of engagement, disengagement and re-engagement. She has collaborated with various artists, and sees it as a platform for learning and broadening scope for dialogues and developing her visual vocabulary in her own practice.

She is active in the Artists Run Initiatives in Sydney and the Inner West. Since 2016 she assists with the curation and programming for Slot. From 2017-2019 she was part of the committee members of AIRspace Projects Inc. when it was incorporated. She has exhibited in Sydney, Korea and Beijing and has been a finalist in various prize events.

A member of the Ultimo Project Studios, the Group has held regular exhibitions at the UP Space Gallery as part of Sydney's arts programs, such as the annual Inner West Open Studio Trail, Sydney Contemporary.
